About

Welcome to my blog! My name is Dylan Rosenthal, and I'm Director of Boys Programming at Charlottesville Abundant Life Ministries, a Christian community development organization in Charlottesville, VA that addresses the spiritual, educational, and economic needs of residents in the Prospect Avenue neighborhood through relationships, programs, and partnerships.

Currently, my main focus is supporting middle and high school boys. For thirteen years, I've coordinated the 5/8 Club, a weekly after-school life skills program for 5th-8th grade boys that includes dinner, a bible-based life skills lesson, games, and recreation. During the summer, 5/8 is a four day per week Summer Program consisting of breakfast, bible study, community service, sports, math, reading, lunch, recreation, and field trips. For a whole week at the end of each summer, I have the pleasure to take a group of these boys to Camp Wabanna, a Christian outdoor adventure camp on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. There the boys sail, kayak, tube, banana boat, swim, fish, climb, zipline, and play sports, while delving into God's Word each morning and singing songs of praise and hearing a sermon each night in Chapel.

Additionally, I coordinate Strive, a goal-setting and accountability program for 9th-12th grade boys that pairs them with Christian adult male mentors who support them as they work toward their educational, career, financial, and personal goals, in order to help them graduate from high school, successfully move on to college or careers, and become productive and responsible adults who support their families and themselves. I also connect high school boys to the local Young Life chapter where they are further exposed to the Gospel, play games, sing songs, and develop relationships with caring leaders. Finally, I fundraise for these programs, including money to hire two current Strive participants/former 5/8 participants to help lead the 5/8 Club Summer Program.

I raise 100% of the funds that support my work at Abundant Life, so please see my "How To Give" page if you are interested in making a tax-deductible donation, or contact me if you would like more information about how to get involved. Thanks!
